Responsibility, integrity, and transparency are some of the many words that describe Jorgel Chavez. Having been elected to the Bell Gardens City Council in November 2020, Jorgel is one of the youngest council members serving throughout Los Angeles County.
Jorgel graduated from Bell Gardens High School in 2015, making him the first in his family to graduate high school and attend higher education. Upon graduation, he attended Long Beach City College and, for a brief period, San Francisco State University. After graduating from Long Beach City College with two Associate of Arts for transfer degrees in Political Science and Communications Studies, Jorgel transferred to the University of Southern California.
In May 2021, Jorgel graduated from the University of Southern California where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Communications, Policy, and Law and his Master's in Public Administration. He graduated Cum Laude and has applied what his higher education has taught him into policy for the betterment of Bell Gardens' constituents.
Jorgel also brings forward countless professional experiences, having worked for nonprofits
and unions. Some of his most recent endeavors include working as a Union Organizer for SEIU California Fast Food Workers Union. Jorgel organized fast food workers throughout the state of California resulting in the signing of the $20 Minimum Wage victory for all Fast-Food Workers. Organizing with SEIU and serving the residents of Bell Gardens and the entire Southeast Los Angeles region have been a highlight of his career.
Jorgel is proud of his hometown and takes pride in having grown up in Bell Gardens. He will continue to advocate for his community on social, environmental, educational, and economic issues as he understands what it means to live and breathe the struggle.
