The Mayor and City Council are responsible to the residents of Bell Gardens for policy creation, the enactment of local laws, and the design and implementation of programs and services to meet identified needs. To accomplish this, the City Council adopts an annual budget, approves or disapproves all ordinances and resolutions, and authorizes funding to ensure adequate support for all City operations.
The Mayor has all the powers and duties of a City Council Member with a vote but no veto power. The Mayor presides at all City Council meetings and is the official representative of Bell Gardens. The Mayor's signature must be affixed to all warrants, contracts and conveyances entered into by the City along with Ordinances and Resolutions. The Mayor is selected from among the Council Members in November of each year.
The City Council meets every second and fourth Monday which convenes at 5:00 p.m. for Executive Closed Session with the regular meeting commencing at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 7100 Garfield Avenue, Bell Gardens, CA 90201.
