Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Opening COVID-19 Quarantine/Isolation Facility in Bell Gardens
The City of Bell Gardens has been notified by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health (County) that they recently contracted with the Quality Inn and Suites in Bell Gardens for the purpose of opening a COVID-19 quarantine/isolation facility for up to ninety days. The County is currently planning to operate nine of these facilities through Los Angeles County. The facilities will serve individuals who are under COVID-19 quarantine/isolation orders but are not otherwise able to provide safe housing for themselves. Eligibility for housing is determined through local health care networks and systems that are treating COVID-19 patients.
The Bell Gardens facility will initially have fifteen occupants and a maximum capacity of up to ninety occupants. The County will staff the facility twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week with multiple medical service provider personnel for treatment and health monitoring, along with several armed and unarmed security personnel. Occupants are transported to the facility and undergo an intake process, assigned a room, receive daily meals, health care services, room cleaning services, and personal hygiene products. The discharge process for occupants consists of a medical evaluation and transport back to their location of origin. In many ways, this facility is similar to the isolation/quarantine area of many local hospitals within the region.
The County has committed to operating the facility in a way that ensures that residents, businesses, and other stakeholders of the City are not negatively impacted by the location of this facility.
