CÉSAR E. CHÁVEZ ART AND ESSAY CONTEST
We are pleased to introduce the Bell Gardens second annual celebration of the birth of César E. Chávez Art and Essay Contest. This project focuses on educating our community about the legacy of César E. Chávez, an unselfish advocate of social justice and respect for human dignity. We are proud to celebrate the life and work of César E. Chávez.
Winners will be highlighted on the City’s website and social media pages and honored at a special council meeting. Students may submit a project for both the Art and Essay categories.

Art Contest Criteria:
- Any art medium may be used such as colored pencils, paint, watercolor, etc.
- Artwork must be on a maximum size of 11 x 17 paper, poster board, or canvas.
- First and last name, grade, school, and phone number must be placed on the back of the project.
- Must complete an application and submit it along with your entry.
- Application deadline: Monday, May 6, 2024 by 6:00 pm
Essay Contest Criteria:
- K-8 essays must have a maximum of 250 words.
- 9-12 essays must have a maximum of 500 words.
- First and last name, grade, school, and phone number must be listed on the last page.
- Must complete an application and submit it along with your entry.
- Application deadline Monday, May 6, 2024 by 6:00 pm
Your art or essay must answer the following questions:
- How did César E. Chávez inspire and influence our society today?
- How has César E. Chávez inspired you to live a life of service to others?
Artwork, essay, and application may be delivered to Bell Gardens Veterans Park located at Bell Gardens Veterans Park 6662 Loveland Street. Essays may be submitted along with your application via email to bgrecreation@bellgardens.org Please note the last day to submit the application is Monday, May 6, 2024, at 6:00 pm.
