FISHING DERBY
The Recreation & Community Services Department welcomes back the Family Fishing Derby on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 8am - 12pm at the Ford Park Pond. This event will be smaller in scale, but it is a community favorite drawing annually 150 young anglers along with their families. This year, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a limit of 100 participating families – each assigned a nine-foot-wide area along the pond edges. Long-time event sponsors are also returning, ensuring a fun, safe, and educational experience for all. The Department of Fish & Wildlife will operate five educational booths, volunteers, and will supply 500 pounds of catfish for the day. The Lions Club of Bell Gardens is donating $1,000 of giveaways for youth ages 15 and under. Additionally, Rainbow Mealworms is donating a large bag of live mealworms for young anglers to use as bait. All anglers ages 16 and older will be required to display a current fishing license – available at our local Big 5 Sporting Goods. Registration will be taken the day of the event only – first come, first served.
