Frida Kahlo: Her Life and Work

  • Event Cost$0

March is Women's History Month!  This year marks the 100th anniversary of when the 19th Amendment was ratified, guaranteeing women the constitutional right to vote in the United States.  To celebrate this important movement that changed the face of voting in the United States, LA County Library is holding events across their libraries to look back at women’s suffrage and the historical figures that lead the charge to women winning the vote. Check their website for special events happening this month:  https://lacountylibrary.org/anniversary-19th-amendment/

In this multimedia presentation, Dr. Gloria Arjona addresses the life and work of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo from the artist’s own perspective. Dressed in the Tehuana costume popularized by Frida Kahlo, Dr. Arjona will read fragments of Frida’s diary and letters, sing traditional songs frequently quoted in her paintings, and include slides of Frida’s self-portraits and photographs of her and other historical characters taken by famous photographers.

For ages 18 and up
